![]() However, to me, Jeremy Brett will always be the perfect Sherlock Holmes. I have read all of the Sherlock Holmes stories. Obviously this is the author's way of asserting her character's feminist independence, but I really disliked it. The loose threads are all tied up only because Enola finds the money and because she successfully eludes her two brothers. Here's a spoiler: The mother is alive at the end but chooses to live alone and the daughter is NOT reunited with her. this is supposed to be a fun adventure/mystery story. Unfortunately, this theme wasn't discussed heavily, either, and should have been since the mother was, in fact, a 'free spirit' and left her life- including her daughter, Enola. The story was interesting, although a bit depressing, since the mother chooses to leave her devoted and loving daughter. ![]() I didn't like how Sherlock was depicted and this particular depiction soured me on the book. My son seemed to have no interest in it at all, and I don't think he ever finished reading it, although he reads a lot- especially stories that take place in the Victorian era and before (especially a lot of the Illustrated Classics). ![]() I realize this is marketed to girls, but the plot seemed like something my son would like, so I bought it since our family loves Sherlock Holmes. ![]()
